Cambridge, 18 April 2023 - IQGeo (AIM: IQG), a developer of geospatial software that is “Building better networks” for telecom and utility operators, today announced that for the second consecutive year it has received Carbon Neutral Organisation status for its 2022 carbon footprint assessment. Following a best practice framework from the Defra/BEIS and Greenhouse Gas Protocol reporting standards, IQGeo completed a thorough carbon footprint analysis and offset it’s carbon emissions.
Working with its auditing partner Carbon Footprint Ltd. the carbon footprint for IQGeo’s global business was assessed, documenting the tonnes of carbon produced by the company’s office-based and travel activities. As the company grows, IQGeo is working to mitigate carbon emissions and was able to report a decline in carbon emission per employee in 2022 compared to our 2019 reference year.
IQGeo was awarded Carbon Neutral Organisation Certification for 2022 by offsetting the total tonnes of carbon generated during the calendar year through its support of high-quality, certified carbon offsetting projects. This was achieved by investing in a portfolio of carbon reduction projects in Africa, Europe, Asia, and South America. The selected projects meet the Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard, two of the highest international standards for carbon credits, and comply with the stringent requirements of the Quality Assurance Standard (QAS) for Carbon Offsetting.
As in previous years, IQGeo is again planting two trees for every employee as part of a project managed by UK Tree Planting. Verified by Carbon Footprint Ltd, the project is planting thousands of trees at schools and biodiversity sites across the UK. Tree planting is an efficient way to sequester carbon emissions for the future by absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen, while improving the quality of the natural environment.
“IQGeo has maintained its Carbon Assessed and Carbon Neutral certifications for 2022 and continues to show a reduction in emission per employee from the baseline year. The company remains on track to meet its Net Zero target and has chosen to support a range of certified carbon offsetting projects around the world to offset its emissions”. Dr Wendy Buckley, Client Director, Carbon Footprint Ltd.
“As part of our environmental focus on reducing greenhouse gas emissions, IQGeo has now measured our carbon footprint since 2019 and has offset our emissions for 2021 and 2022 to achieve carbon neutral status,” explained Richard Petti, CEO at IQGeo. “Decarbonization is an important objective for many of our telecom and utility customers. Not only does our software enable essential network modernization for our customers to meet net-zero objectives, but our status also helps them to decarbonize their supply chain. In 2023 we will continue to work with our team to look for opportunities to reduce our overall and individual emissions. As an organization, we are committed to doing our part to reduce the impact of climate change for future generations.”
