Cambridge, 08 June 2023 - IQGeo (AIM: IQG), a developer of geospatial software that is “Building better networks” for telecom and utility operators, today announced that Raf Meersman, Senior Vice President at IQGeo, has been elected President of the Board of Directors at the FTTH Council.
As Europe’s leading fiber broadband industry organization, the FTTH Council mission is to accelerate ubiquitous full fiber broadband connectivity to empower the digital society of the future. In this voluntary role, Raf will work with the other FTTH Council Board members and Working Groups to support and educate the industry on fiber technologies and contribute to relevant legislative initiatives across Europe.
Raf has a long-standing relationship with the FTTH Council which began while he was CEO at Comsof, prior to IQGeo’s acquisition of Comsof in 2022. He first attended their FTTH Conference in 2008, joined as members in 2011, and took on Board responsibilities in 2020. Over the years, Raf and the IQGeo team have actively contributed to the Council’s internationally recognized “FTTH Handbook” and participated in Working Groups focused on developing best practice to accelerate and optimize fiber rollout.
Raf Meersman, said: “I’m proud to have been involved with the FTTH Council for more than a decade and in this time we’ve made amazing progress in establishing fiber technology as the industry standard for sustainable, high-performance broadband. However, with more than 40% of the continent still to be passed with fiber, the job of the FTTH Council is far from finished. There are still huge regional differences so the exchange of information remains vital, and the FTTH Council is setting the standard for fiber rollout and actively driving adoption. I am excited to continue this important work in my new role as President of the Board.”
“We are pleased to support Raf and the FTTH Council in their mission to lead the broadband industry,” says Richard Petti, CEO at IQGeo. “Raf’s experience with fiber technology and the complexities of design and rollout is a fantastic asset. I’m confident that his energy and vision will continue to make a major contribution in supporting the 160 members of the Council to deliver broadband to millions of European homes and businesses.”
